Pandemic Storytelling

Between early 2020 and the summer of 2022, Silence Speaks partnered with individuals and groups around the world to support online community-building and the sharing of pandemic experiences. In 2020-21, we held a series of weekly, and then monthly, online storytelling sessions which resulted in a collection of first-person writings. A number were developed as short videos using images provided by students at the California College of the Arts. See examples below.

Silence Speaks also worked with the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in India to develop the Imagine Another World project. More than 80 storytellers in Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, and New Delhi gathered in small groups during the fall of 2020 for a series of two-part, online writing and story sharing workshops. A sub-group of these storytellers then worked with our team in the spring of 2021, to produce their stories as videos, using artwork, animation, and film footage. See examples below.
